Building Services Consultant – Mechanical and Electrical Services Design
A large listed manor house was badly damaged by fire. The building was renovated and repaired with air-conditioning and digitally controlled intelligent lighting and services to make it completely modern. In addition to the main building the old stable block and creamery were also modernised. We designed all of the mechanical and electrical services in these buildings. The project was recently completed.
The Place is the UK’s premiere centre for contemporary dance. The Place building is in two halves, the front half is a listed drill hall containing a theatre and a restaurant, the rear half is a modern building containing several dance studios.
The project involved replacing the boilers, heavily modifying the heating systems, and replacing the theatre ventilation system. The changes to the heating were very extensive including zoning the building to help to reduce the running costs which involved running new mains and risers through the building to separate constant temperature pipework which feeds fan convectors and air handling plant from variable temperature pipework which feeds radiators. The changes together with the modifications to the Building Management System will optimise the efficiency of the new condensing boilers.
The other major change was to the ventilation of the theatre. The old plant was very noisy and inefficient, it was replaced by new variable speed plant which provides just the amount of fresh air required based on the CO₂ produced by the occupants of the Theatre, this keeps the running cost and noise to a minimum. The running costs of the buildings have been dramatically reduced and the comfort has been maintained and even improved in some places.
Bedford Modern School is a large public school run by the Harpur Trust in Bedford.Bedford Modern School swimming pool was originally built in the 1920s and refurbished in the 1980s. The old boilers and ventilation plant were worn out and needed to be replaced. The project included two new air handling units, three new boilers and a control panel including BMS system. The project was carried out in several separate phases in order that the disruption to the pool was kept to a minimum.
The air handling units include heat recovery and inverter controlled fans in an effort to reduce the running costs and to keep the pool hall comfortable. The latest phase of the pool plant replacement include changing the heating in the sports field changing rooms, and replacement of the large main swimming pool circulation pumps.
The modifications to the plant has brought considerable running cost savings and should save money for many years to come. 
The school is also modernizing its hot water system, the elderly and inefficient hot water distribution system is being replaced by local electric water heaters to reduce running costs.
A very large house with complex and environmentally friendly services. The home has a large indoor swimming pool, 
tennis courts, and stables. The services include complex lighting, and power systems, security and communications, underfloor heating, twin boilers, water booster, air-conditioning, grey water collection, and sewage systems. The property has been finished and decorated to extremely high standards.
A new development of three 
luxury houses in Harpole. The properties are built to an exceptionally high standard. Each house has gas fired heating with underfloor heating downstairs and radiators upstairs.
Large-scale refurbishment of the Grange Cinema in Kilburn, a Grade II listed building which was the largest cinema in Europe when it was built in 1914. 
The building is now the UCKG Church and Help Centre. We designed the complete air-conditioning and mechanical ventilation installation for this project.
Air-conditioning the main hall was difficult because of the height of the building. The solution was to install the fan-coil units are under the floor with floor diffusers.
Twelve new two bed warden controlled bungalows designed for the elderly, with communal meeting rooms and kitchen around a shared courtyard and garden. We provided the performance specification and outline design for the mechanical and electrical services installation for this project. The design incorporates solar panels and solar hot water, as well as gas fired boilers and underfloor heating.
Design for mechanical services modifications to this large health centre in Bedford. As well as doctors’ surgeries the building contains a dental surgery, treatment and therapy rooms, and PCT administrative offices. The refurbishment includes modifications to the controls to improve the efficiency of the heating, and improvements to safety by fitting low surface temperature radiators and thermostatic mixing valves.
Mechanical and electrical services design for a major refurbishment and extension to the existing cricket pavilion and clubhouse. The extension includes improved changing rooms and showers as well as a kitchen, bar, toilets and functions area enabling the clubhouse to be
used for large social events. The facilities are often used by county B teams as well as for local league matches. The services include new lighting and power in all areas, new radiator heating and water services throughout, and new mechanical ventilation in the changing rooms and kitchen areas.
Mechanical services design for Cambourne Police Station, an environmental flagship building for Cambridgeshire Constabulary. It is a two-storey, 500sq metre building incorporating a sleek, contemporary design using slate, copper and glass. The services include underfloor heating and hot water fed by an air source heat pump and solar panels.Movie Fifty Shades Darker (2017)
