The Mead Centre Newport Pagnell

The Mead centre is a church community centre in Newport Pagnell. The building has underfloor heating in most rooms and gas fired heating. The hall has mechanical ventilation and the whole building has LED lighting. The building has many meeting rooms, each of which can be heated individually so that only the occupied rooms are heated.

Whitworth Lane

Whitworth Lane – (render)

This is a large residential house heated by underfloor heating. The underfloor heating is fed by air to water heat pumps and gas fired boiler in a hybrid heating system. In addition, there are a number of air-to-air heat pumps using a VRF system. The house uses two MVHR systems and water softener. All of the systems in the house are controlled by mobile phone apps, including the motorised blinds and lighting. The project is due for completion in 2023.

Overstone Hall

Overstone Hall was a Victoria stately home that was mostly destroyed by fire in 2001. The building is to be rebuilt and divided into many separate residential units but retaining the appearance and character of the original building.. I provided a performance specification and outline drawings covering all of the mechanical and electrical services in the building. The project is likely to start on site in 2019.

Reynard House Leicester

This project converts a large seven storey office block to residential flats. The project is located near to the centre of Leicester. The flats use a communal boiler room with efficient commercial boilers which feed individual Heat Distribution Units in each flat. This system will enable each flat to be fed by the local district heating system if it is connected in the future. The system also avoids the need for individual boilers in each flat. The project should be complete by 2019.

Wadhurst Castle – Sussex

Wadhurst Castle in East Sussex is a listed Victorian residence which had a very old and poorly controlled heating system fed by an obsolete boiler. The heating system around the building was mostly retained but connected to a new distribution system in the basement with several individually controllable heating zones. The existing boiler was replaced by a modern condensing boiler with weather compensating controls. The heating modifications were completed in 2016.

A new wing is currently being constructed containing a ballroom, which will allow the castle to be used as a wedding venue. The new ballroom is mechanically ventilated and air-conditioned. The ventilation system uses acoustic treatment to reduce the impact on neighbouring properties of loud music in the ballroom. The new ventilation plant uses heat recovery and heat pump heating and cooling and it is located in a basement plantroom below the dance floor. In addition to the ballroom additional kitchen, toilets and storage areas are to be constructed in the basement of the castle. The ballroom project should be completed during 2017.

Emerson Studios

Emerson Studios Southwark will be a temporary drama studio for the Royal School of Speech and Drama. The studio premises will be used during the construction of new buildings on the schools main campus. Two open plan office spaces in the basement and ground floors have been changed into studios for training actors. The ground floor space will be used as a small scale theatre with lighting and sound. The basement contains several small studios each with accoustic treatment. Both floors required mechanical ventilation because of the number of students using the space at once. The space will have an industrial look with exposed trunking and ductwork.

Little Gransden Almshouses

A block of four existing almshouses are being refurbished and extended to a good standard. The building required a considerable amount of additional insulation to meet building regulations. New electric heating has been used for the whole project. In this case a combination of electric storage heaters and electric underfloor heating has been used. All of the heating was designed to be suitable for elderly tenants. The project is due for completion in 2017.

Warwick Avenue Bedford

shl002-warwick-avenue-block-j-002The Warwick Avenue project is a new housing development in central Bedford built on the old university site. The development is in three phases and includes around 130 new flats and houses. shl002-warwick-avenue-block-b-001The houses are styled to tie in with the Victorian properties in the area. We designed all of the Mechanical and Electrical Services for all of the properties on the site.
